LOK Lunar Lander LK Salyut Space Station Periscope
The Optical Sighting device VShK (Periscope) was used for viewing Earth from inside the station, for orientation in space allow retrofire, manual re-entry and to align for rendezvous/docking with another spacecraft.
Originally made for LOK ( Lunar Orbital Spacecraft), it was used in testing of LK(Lunar Module) and then adopted for world first manned space station Salyut. It represents an important early type of optical device used in Soviet programs at a time of Space Race.
The assembly consist of VShK Periscope with the serial No137721, featuring various knobs and buttons marked in Cyrillic, and Periscope component, featuring a heavy machined metal structure with some tubing and heat shield at center. Overall size of the device is 19” in length and 10.5” in diameter.
The assembly mounted on the permanent metal display, but could be to dismantled by removing the screws.
