A flown cover hatch from unmanned Voskhod (Sunrise) spacecraft 3VK landing capsule that were sent to space on October, 1964 as part of test program prior to manned flights. The dimensions are: 28" diameter, 8" height, about 40 lb weigh. The outer surface of the hatch’s heat shield protection is partly burned out during re-entry through atmosphere. At 80 km. the temperature rises across the surface of the heat shield, as the plasma sheath that surrounds the craft. Inside the module the crew observe the dancing purple flares and sense the searing heat as they plummet earthwards. "Voskhod" is the name of the series of the Soviet multiseat spacecraft and the program of the low earth orbit flights created under the direction of Sergei Korolyov as a successor to Vostok- the world’s first one seat manned spacecraft. The decision to start the program was made in 1963 with proposal of four three-seat launches starting in August 1964. This is a very rare artifact.
